Ben has been a teacher for over 14 years and has worked in the Czech Republic, Jordan, Libya, Turkey, and Saudi Arabia. He has experience teaching nearly all age groups and abilities in a range of contexts including state and private language schools. In addition to this, he has also worked as a teacher trainer and has an interest in materials development.
Mixed ability classes have become the norm in ELT and it seems that we, as teachers, must cope with a greater range of mixed abilities within the same class nowadays. In this presentation, we will explore ways and tips for coping with mixed ability classes and look at various strategies for differentiating activities within a Cambridge coursebook.
Oracy may sound scary and very formal, but it is quite a simple concept. Oracy is being confident and effective when communicating in different situations, such as taking part in a discussion, working with others on a project, as well as giving a presentation. For teachers, oracy goes much further than just teaching functional language because it also covers physical, emotional, social and cognitive skills. In this presentation we will look at oracy in more detail and see how Cambridge materials encourage and develop learners’ oracy skills.
