AI (pedagogically) domesticated: ELT practices at the human-machine boundary

AI has been with us for a while — quietly embedded in everyday digital routines. But in recent years, generative AI has stopped knocking politely and begun macheting its way into foreign language classrooms, raising urgent pedagogical, ethical, and practical questions. In this talk, I will explore how we might respond to its unruly presence by domesticating AI tools to align with the needs of both teachers and learners. I will also argue that the human-machine boundary in a foreign language pedagogic setting is not fixed, but actively negotiated in everyday classroom practice. All practical, hands-on, and grounded in real-world teaching contexts.
