‘Reading is such a powerful force for good that it can change people’s lives,’ (Hilhorst, Lockey & Speight, 2018). In this presentation we will discuss the importance of reading and consider how students read and gain access to reading in the modern digital world through a more focused mindset. We will establish the differences between skills and strategies and decide why this distinction is so important when considering reading. By taking part in a reading activity there will be an opportunity to highlight the differences between online and print reading, to think about online text validity, and to agree on the key characteristics of each.
